Did you Kill Anyone This Weekend?
Caerphilly Castle again this weekend gone, weather wa better than expected, if a little gray, but it was iffy enough to keep the crowds small, which was a pity. It absolutely heaved it down on Sunday Night, Thunder included, but we awoke on Monday toa Cold but Bright Start which didn't last and threatened rain all day that never came.
My Soapmaking has improved the latest batch of Honey and Oatmeal Castille Soap has turned out really well, and may at last be of Sale-able quality. Should be able to get £2.50 for a 4 oz block, and 20 blocks from 1 batch that costs about £10 to make; a nice profit if I can sell it :o)
This is a quick bit of footage I threw together this morning from May Day. It is the edited highlights.
Apologies for the resolution but my still camera is somewhat limited in it's video capabilities

Fascinating post, how much rehearsal goes into these 'mock battles’ so that everyone knows where to go, what to do etc and how not to chop off your mate's head?
No rehearsal as such, it's mostly free fighting, only the final outcome is decided beforehand
Quite wonderful! I love that video...many dead body's! UGH! Wonderful photo's, too. Your costumes are amazing..Thanks for posting this 'happening'. Will you be doing more performances?
I'm a long-time lurker and accountant who reads from work. Just a warning about selling your soap - the Inland Revenue have a team who look for "undeclared earnings" and accuse people of tax-dodging.
Your comments make it appear that there's a profit motive in the soap-making, which ought to be declared on a self-assessment tax return.
I suggest that you get advice before this causes problems for you. Sorry for depressing post.
Don't worry Bored accountant - As I'm self employed, I get to fill out the form each year already, so any "profits" (after materials & group % are taken off I don't think we're talking millions here) will be added onto that:-)
Bored Accountant...And we have so far sold nothing, so there is no problem. hmmmmm are you the bored accountant I think you are?
OOL: Still got another 7 events to do this year, we're off to Morimondo,Italy in 2 weeks time for a Multi-national 14th Century event.
Why do I think Mary, Mother of Jesus, when I see Mrs A in that outfit with the baby??
And A Jnr - well, none other than a young Will Scarlet!!
:-)

Somehow CQ, I think that may be even more of a blasphemy than the Da Vinci Code:-)
I went to a medieval fare but so much better where you are with ruins and everything.
